The Place for Glock Enthusiasts
Since their 1986 introduction in the USA, Glock pistols have taken the law-enforcement and civilian markets by storm. Glock shooters have found that they can trust Glock's tough construction, innovative design and remarkable reliability. Although simple in construction, there is a lot to know about these plastic pistols. Because Glock Inc. is not forthcoming with detailed information about their products, a thriving industry has grown up around decoding Glock pistols. From the beginning, it's been up to devoted enthusiasts to research, organize and disseminate the information that Glock shooters crave.
Welcome to GLOCKbooks.com where you can find most everything in print about our favorite pistols. There are not a huge number of books out there about Glocks, but each one satisfies a particular need in the Glock enthusiasts' library. Click on an item and I'll give you an in-depth review, some scans and sometimes a sample chapter and an interview with the author.
At first, a couple of the authors I approached about involvement in this site wondered why one author of a Glock book would be interested in promoting the books of other Glock authors. The fact is that I’ve worked extensively with other enthusiast populations in the past and there is actually very little traditional competition between information products in such a market. Enthusiasts want all the information they can get because every author's perspective is different, and his experience is unique. Information is cumulative. The more an enthusiast learns, the better. If all this disperate information is available at one source that's even better. As a Glock shooter, you want the whole picture of the entire world of your weapon, just like Kung-Fu Stylists do, or Volkswagen Beetle Nuts do, or Vintage Fountain Pen Collectors do.
An enthusiast craves information, and that's what this site is all about.
What the Hell is a Glock?
If you don't yet count yourself among the ever-growing universe of Glock enthusiasts, but have just bought your first Glock or recently shot your friend's for the first time, read below to start your journey toward what we Glock-aholics lovingly call "The Dark Side."
In a nutshell, a Glock pistol is a tough, homely, preternaturally reliable pistol made partly of polymer and fewer than 30 pieces of steel that some people love and others just don't understand. There are about 22 models of Glock pistols, give or take a few variations, limitations and availability. Flavors range from the near pocket pistol to competition models with 6-inch barrels as well as compact and combat sizes including one that can be switched to full-auto. Calibers stretch from the unobtainable .380 to the unstoppable 10mm plus .40 S/W, .357 SIG and two .45s (ACP and GAP).
Revolutionary features of the Glock design include recoil-absorbing polymer frame, muzzle flip-counteracting low bore axis, diverse-ammo digesting tolerances and diddle-free safe operation. Glocks have been described as auto-loading revolvers, bricks, tactical Tupperware and upon rare occasions, beautiful.
From the factory, you can get your Glock in any color as long as it's black.... or lately olive drab.
Glocks are some people's idea of perfection. They are other people's idea of a good starting point. Fun and functional customizations have become a major industry over the years. While Glocks are ready to defend life and liberty straight out of the box, parts swapping and accessories mounting are so easy and inexpensive to perform at home, there is no reason not to experiment with trigger characteristics, site designs or extended controls. Many Glock shooters go even further and add custom stippling, alter grip angle and hit their Glocks with spray paint before they call it good.
For their part, the pistols themselves seem to smile graciously through all of this enthusiastic adoration and stubborn abhorrence knowing deep down in their Teutonic souls that they are absolutely perfect for what they were put on this Earth for.
But don't take my word for it! Check out what the experts have to say in these terrific books.
Keep on Glockin'
